About Cudoniella clavus (Alb. & Schwein.) Dennis
Cudoniella clavus is a fungus species belonging to the family Helotiaceae. It was first formally described in 1805 by Johannes Baptista von Albertini and Lewis David de Schweinitz under the name Peziza clavus. In 1964, British mycologist R. W. G. Dennis reclassified the species, moving it to the genus Cudoniella. The fruit bodies of this jelly-textured fungus have a disc-shaped cap that ranges from 0.4 to 1.2 cm (1/8โ1/2 inch) across, attached to a thin stipe. Most fruit bodies are cream-colored, and some show faint tones of ochre or violet. This fungus grows on rotting twigs, stems, leaves, and cones that are submerged in water. Cudoniella clavus is widespread and common, and it is not edible.
