About Cucullia tanaceti (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
The scientific name of this moth species is Cucullia tanaceti (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775. Cucullia tanaceti has a wingspan of 40–48 millimetres, which measures 1.6–1.9 inches. Adult individuals have greyish-brownish wings, while caterpillars of this species are white with yellow longitudinal lines and black markings. Adults are active in flight from April to early June, and again from July to September, making this a bivoltine species. In summer, the larvae feed on plant genera Achillea, Tanacetum, Anthemis, Santolina, and Ormenis. In autumn, larvae feed on plants from the genus Artemisia. Pupation for this species lasts two years. This species is widespread across Europe, the Near East, Asia Minor, Iran, and Turkestan. Its preferred habitats are xerophilous areas, dry sunny slopes, and rocky places.
