About Ctenucha multifaria Walker, 1854

Ctenucha multifaria is a moth species that belongs to the family Erebidae. This species was first described by Francis Walker in 1854. It is found along the coast of the United States, in California north of the city of Santa Maria, and in Oregon. This is a diurnal moth, which means it is active during the daytime. Adult C. multifaria is similar to the brown-winged ctenucha found in southern California, but can be distinguished by its black wings rather than brown ones. The body of the adult moth is blue, and measures 20 to 26 millimetres (0.79 to 1.02 inches) in length. The markings on its head and shoulder region are red. The wingspan of C. multifaria ranges from 46 to 50 millimetres (1.8 to 2.0 inches). Its forewings are black with a white margin. The larvae of this moth are hairy, and the species forms its cocoons using these larval hairs.
