About Cryptocephalus moraei (Linnaeus, 1758)

This species of leaf beetle, Cryptocephalus moraei, measures 3 to 5 mm in length. The front segments of the antenna are bicoloured black-brown, and the entire antenna turns fully black. Males have yellow heads, while females have black heads marked with two yellow dots. The prothorax is black, with a yellow smudge on each rear corner. The elytra have rows of robust points; they are mostly black, with a yellow stain at the tip. The legs are reddish-brown. Individuals of this species can be observed from May to August, and they feed on plant species belonging to the Hypericum genus. Cryptocephalus moraei has been recorded throughout Europe in both scholarly articles and citizen science data.
