About Croton wigginsii L.C.Wheeler

Croton wigginsii is a spreading shrub that grows to around 1 meter, or 3 feet, in height. It has sparse foliage consisting of long, oval-shaped leaves covered in a layer of white hairs. This species is dioecious: male plants produce staminate flowers with thready stamens, while female plants produce pistillate flowers that contain rounded immature fruits. This small gray-green shrub is native to the Sonoran Deserts of northern Mexico and Arizona, and extends into the Colorado Desert in California, where it grows on sand dunes.
