About Croton sylvaticus Hochst.

Croton sylvaticus Hochst. is a tree species belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae, and its common name is forest fever-berry. This tree can be found growing in forests stretching from the east coast of South Africa all the way to Tropical Africa. It typically reaches 7 to 13 meters (23 to 43 feet) in height, though it may occasionally grow as tall as 30 meters (100 feet). It grows in moist forests, thickets, and forest edges, at altitudes ranging from 350 to 1,800 meters (1,100 to 5,900 feet).

It is used as a general-purpose timber, and is also used for poles, posts, and fuel. In traditional medicine, leaf sap is used to heal cuts, bark is used to treat malaria, an oral decoction made from root bark is used as a remedy for tuberculosis, and a leaf infusion works as a purgative.
