About Crocus chrysanthus (Herb.) Herb.
Crocus chrysanthus (Herb.) Herb., commonly known as snow crocus, bears vivid orange-yellow bowl-shaped flowers. It has smaller corms and smaller flowers than the giant Dutch crocus (Crocus vernus), though it produces more flowers per corm than Crocus vernus. Its common name comes from its exceptionally early flowering period: it blooms about two weeks before the giant crocus, and often emerges through snow in late winter or early spring. Its leaves are narrow with a silver central stripe. The plant grows to between 3 and 4 inches (7.6 and 10.2 cm) in height. This species is native to southeastern Europe and Turkey, and is an introduced species in Czechoslovakia, Germany, and Great Britain.
