About Crocidium multicaule Hook.
Crocidium multicaule Hook. is a small annual plant that usually does not grow taller than 30 centimetres (12 inches) when flowering. It forms a low, small patch of somewhat fleshy leaves at the ground, and produces several tall, thin erect stems. Most stems have reduced leaves on their lower sections, and each stem is topped by a single flower head. The flower head contains 5 to 13 (most often 8) lemon yellow ray florets, each reaching up to one centimetre in length. The center of the flower head is filled with many tiny disc florets that share a similar bright yellow shade. The fruits of this plant are fuzzy brown achenes, measuring only one to two millimetres long, and become gluey when exposed to moisture. Crocidium multicaule is native to western North America, where it grows across the region from British Columbia to California. It occurs in a variety of habitats ranging from grassland to woodland, and is found most often in dry open areas.
