About Crithagra reichenowi (Salvadori, 1888)

Reichenow's seedeater, with the scientific name Crithagra reichenowi, is a species of finch belonging to the family Fringillidae. Some authorities classify it as conspecific with the black-throated canary. This species was formerly placed in the genus Serinus, but phylogenetic analysis that used both mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences showed that Serinus was polyphyletic. As a result, the original genus was split, and Reichenow's seedeater was among multiple species moved to the resurrected genus Crithagra. This species is commonly found in eastern Africa. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry forest, dry savanna, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
