About Crataegus coccinea L.

Crataegus coccinea L., commonly called scarlet hawthorn, is a hawthorn species surrounded by considerable taxonomic confusion, as this name has been misapplied for a long time. Research has confirmed that Crataegus coccinea is the same species as Crataegus pedicellata. Under the official rules of botanical nomenclature, the older name, Crataegus coccinea, is the one that should be used.
