About Crassothonna capensis (L.H.Bailey) B.Nord.

Crassothonna capensis (L.H.Bailey) B.Nord. is a low-growing, succulent spreading ground cover. It bears finger-like blue-grey leaves arranged in a spiral; these leaves develop maroon tips when growing in dry conditions. The plant produces yellow daisy-like flowers that grow on long, slender stems.

This species is endemic to South Africa's Eastern Cape Province, where it grows in semi-arid Karoo scrub and dry, rocky flats. It is often found growing in the partial protection of surrounding rocks or other vegetation.

In cultivation, this species is commonly known as 'little pickles' in the USA and 'ruby necklace' in Australia. It is used in rockeries, terrariums, indoor hanging pots, and outdoor xeriscaping.
