About Crambus perlellus Scopoli, 1763
Crambus perlellus (Scopoli, 1763), also referred to as Crambus perlella, is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. This species is distributed in Europe, extending eastward across the Palearctic region. Adults have a wingspan ranging from 19 to 28 mm. The face of the moth is quite prominent. Its forewings are a very shining whitish color, and often have an ochreous tinge. The veins and dorsal area of the forewings are often more or less broadly suffused with dark grey, while the cilia are shining white. Hindwings are grey, and may sometimes be heavily suffused with ochreous-whitish, or alternatively be dark grey on their posterior sections. The larva has a light grey-greenish or greyish-ochreous body, with a darker dorsal line, brown spots, and a pale yellow-brown head with darker markings. Adults fly from July to August, with flight timing varying by location. Larvae feed on a variety of grasses, while adult moths feed on nectar from Leucanthemum species.
