About Cotoneaster pannosus Franch.
Cotoneaster pannosus Franch. is a Cotoneaster species commonly called silverleaf cotoneaster. This woody sprawling shrub can easily grow over 3 meters tall. It is covered in dull green oval-shaped leaves with fuzzy white undersides. It produces white flowers, and develops red-orange pome fruits that each hold two seeds. The fruits are very attractive to birds, which are the main agent of this plant's seed dispersal. This species is native to south central China. It was introduced to other regions around the world, including southern Africa and Australia, to be grown as an ornamental plant. It has become naturalized in some of these introduced areas, and is classified as a troublesome noxious weed in others, such as Hawaii. It grows at an elevation of 1,000 meters, or 3,280 feet.
