About Cotoneaster bullatus Bois ex Bilm. & Bois
Cotoneaster bullatus, commonly called hollyberry cotoneaster, is a shrub species in the genus Cotoneaster of the rose family. Its native distribution covers Western China, specifically the provinces of Hubei, Sichuan, Xizang, and Yunnan. In this region, it grows in various woodland and shrub biotopes at elevations between 900 and 3200 meters above sea level. This species was brought into cultivation in 1898, and has become widely naturalized in Europe and New Zealand. It was previously thought to also be naturalized in British Columbia, North America, but this population is now recognized as the closely related species Cotoneaster rehderi. C. rehderi was formerly classified as a variety of this species, C. bullatus var macrophylla.
