About Cosmosoma myrodora Dyar, 1907
Cosmosoma myrodora (common name: scarlet-bodied wasp moth) is a moth species in the subfamily Arctiinae. It was first described by Harrison Gray Dyar Jr. in 1907. This species is distributed in the United States, where it occurs in Florida and across the region from South Carolina to Texas. It has also been recorded in Brazil, on the outskirts of São Paulo. Its habitat is limited to coastal plains. The wingspan of adult moths ranges from 30 to 35 millimeters. Adult moths are active from March through December each year. Before mating, adult males collect toxic chemicals from Eupatorium capillifolium and distribute these toxins over females. Larvae of this species feed on Mikania scandens.
