About Corybas diemenicus (Lindl.) Rupp
Corybas diemenicus (Lindl.) Rupp is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb. It produces a single round or heart-shaped leaf that is 15 to 25 mm (0.6โ1 inch) long and 12 to 20 mm (0.5โ0.8 inch) wide. The upper surface of the leaf is green, while the lower surface is silvery green. This species usually bears only one erect flower, which is dark reddish to purple with translucent areas, 12 to 16 mm (0.5โ0.6 inch) long and 10 to 16 mm (0.4โ0.6 inch) wide. Its dorsal sepal grows on a stalk approximately 2 mm (0.08 inch) long, is 18 to 25 mm (0.7โ1 inch) long and 12 to 15 mm (0.5โ0.6 inch) wide, and forms a hood that covers the labellum. The lateral sepals are about 4 mm (0.2 inch) long, joined at their bases, and taper toward a fine tip. The petals are wider but shorter than the lateral sepals, and are joined to them. The labellum is 10 to 13 mm (0.4โ0.5 inch) long and 11 to 16 mm (0.4โ0.6 inch) wide, tube-shaped, with a white centre and many short, broad teeth along its edges. Flowering takes place from June to December. Corybas diemenicus is widespread and common. It most often grows in moist forest and rainforest, and is sometimes found in drier habitats. Its distribution ranges from Barrington Tops National Park southward through New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, to southeastern Victoria and Tasmania.
