About Coreopsis maritima (Nutt.) Hook.fil.

Scientific name: Coreopsis maritima (Nutt.) Hook.fil., also referred to as Leptosyne maritima. This is a perennial plant that typically grows 10–40 cm tall, and occasionally reaches up to 80 cm (4 to 32 inches) in height. Its foliage is lobed and mostly linear in shape; individual lobes measure 5–30 mm long and 1–2 mm wide. The plant’s flower phyllaries are 12–20 mm long, number 12–13 (sometimes more), and are lanceolate in shape. It blooms from late winter to early summer. Most stems hold one or two flower heads, carried on 15 to 30 cm long peduncles, but stems may sometimes have 4 or more flower heads. Flower heads contain 16-21 ray florets, whose laminae are 20–35 or more mm long. Disc corollas are 5.5–7 mm long. The plant’s fruits, called cypselae, are 6–7 mm long and oblong-rectangular in shape.
