About Coreopsis californica (Nutt.) H.Sharsm.

This species is listed under the scientific name Coreopsis californica (Nutt.) H.Sharsm., and is also referred to as Leptosyne californica. It is an annual herb that grows up to 30 cm (12 inches) tall. Its leaves are linear, most often growing from the base of the plant, and measure 2โ€“10 centimetres (0.79โ€“3.94 in) long. It produces yellow flower heads that contain both ray florets and disc florets, and flowers from March to May.

Leptosyne californica grows in dry habitats across California in the United States, and Baja California in northwestern Mexico. It occurs at elevations between 30โ€“600 metres (98โ€“1,969 ft). Specific locations where it grows include washes in the San Joaquin Valley, the southern Inner California Coast Ranges, and the Transverse Ranges, as well as bajadas in the Mojave Desert, Colorado Desert, and Sonoran Desert.
