About Cordyline petiolaris (Domin) Pedley
Cordyline petiolaris, commonly called the broad leaved palm lily, is an evergreen Australian plant. It grows as a shrub reaching around 5 metres in height. It naturally occurs in warm rainforest and moist eucalyptus forest, with a natural distribution range stretching from the Nambucca River to near Gladstone, Queensland. Its leaves are elliptic in shape, measuring 30 to 80 cm long and 4 to 12 cm wide, and grow on long, unrolled leaf stalks. The species epithet petiolaris refers to these long leaf stalks. Flowering occurs between late winter and spring, and the flowers are white or lilac. The fruit is a red berry 7 to 10 mm in diameter, and it can persist on the plant for many months. This species propagates easily from either seeds or stem cuttings. It is not as widely seen in cultivation as Cordyline australis, but it is also well suited to gardens with moist soil in semi shade. It is not frost tolerant, and it is also suitable for use as an indoor pot plant.
