About Coracias temminckii (Vieillot, 1819)

The purple-winged roller, scientifically named Coracias temminckii (Vieillot, 1819), measures 30–34 cm (12–13 in) in total length, which is similar in size to the Eurasian jay. Its cap and upper-tail coverts are bright azure blue, while its back is dark-olive. The remaining plumage is mainly dark blue, and it has a large black bill. Male and female purple-winged rollers have identical appearance. Juvenile purple-winged rollers resemble adult individuals, but their plumage is duller.
