Coprosma rubra is a shrub that is native to New Zealand. It grows in both the North and South Islands, ranging from lowland to montane areas. It is most often found growing in riparian forest or shrubland located on alluvial soils. Mature Coprosma rubra can reach up to 4 metres in height, and has red-brown bark and slender branches. Its fruit is yellowish-white, oblong in shape, and can grow up to 6 millimetres long.
