About Coprosma pseudocuneata W.R.B.Oliv. ex Garn.-Jones & Elder

Coprosma pseudocuneata W.R.B.Oliv. ex Garn.-Jones & Elder is a small, erect shrub. Its leaves are arranged oppositely; they are small, green, and have a pointed tip. A small hairy sheath surrounds the base of each leaf. This species produces single yellow flowers. Its fruits are approximately 6mm long, and can be orange-red, scarlet, or a mix of blueish and yellow tones. The plant's overall form varies based on its location of growth, differing with both habitat type and geographic distribution. This species occurs in New Zealand's North Island and South Island, primarily in alpine environments. On Mount Taranaki, it grows at elevations between 1100m and 1400m above sea level, and individuals growing here are noted to have thicker, broader leaves. The northernmost extent of the species' range reaches Mount Hikurangi and Maungapohatu. The type locality for the species is Mount Holdsworth. It can occupy a wide range of habitats, from lowland bogs and shrublands to subalpine environments. In the South Island, Coprosma pseudocuneata is very commonly associated with Nothofagus solandri, forming a distinct variant of species-poor subalpine forest.
