About Coprinellus flocculosus (DC.) Vilgalys, Hopple & Jacq.Johnson
Coprinellus flocculosus (DC.) Vilgalys, Hopple & Jacq.Johnson has a yellowish cap that starts egg-shaped, then develops into a cone up to 5 centimetres (2 in) tall. The cap bears white specks, which give the species its name. Its gills are adnexed and close together, and they undergo deliquescence (autodigestion). The stem can reach up to 9 cm (3+1⁄2 in) in length and 7 millimetres (1⁄4 in) in thickness. This fungus produces a black spore print, and it looks similar to many of its related species. It grows on wood debris, and can be found throughout North America.
