About Consolea moniliformis (L.) A.Berger

Consolea moniliformis (L.) A.Berger is a cactus species native to the Greater Antilles. Its native range includes Cuba, Hispaniola (which spans the Dominican Republic and Haiti), and three islands belonging to Puerto Rico: Mona, Culebra, and Desecheo. This species grows as a small shrub, produces vivid green falciform pads, and is most commonly found growing near coastlines. On Hispaniola, Consolea moniliformis is often confused with Consolea testudinis-crus, a related species that grows as a large tree-like plant and has bluish-grey pads. In Puerto Rico, it is sometimes confused with Consolea rubescens.
