About Conirostrum albifrons Lafresnaye, 1842
The capped conebill (Conirostrum albifrons Lafresnaye, 1842) measures 13 to 14 cm in length, and weighs between 11.7 and 21.5 grams. Males belonging to the "albifrons" group have a white crown, with slaty-black coloring on the face, breast, and neck; a light blue shoulder and tail; and a navy blue back. Males of the "atrocyaneum" group have deep blue coloring on the cap, back, wings, and tail; a glaucous shoulder; and slaty coloring on the breast, neck, and face. Females have a light blue crown, a blue-grey head, a dark yellow body, and olive-colored back and wings. Both sexes have a slightly curved black bill and grey legs. The capped conebill has a separated population in Venezuela around the state of Miranda, with a main range running along the Andes from Colombia to Peru, and extending into the Yungas of Peru and Bolivia. It lives in tropical montane cloud forest at elevations between 2000 and 2800 m.
