Condea verticillata (Jacq.) Harley & J.F.B.Pastore, commonly called John Charles, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Lamiaceae. Its native range covers Mexico, Florida, Central America, the Caribbean, and northwestern South America, and it has been introduced to Hawaii. This plant is used in traditional medicine to treat a wide range of conditions, including coughs, colds, fever, tonsillitis, bronchitis, uterine fibroids, skin infections, and stomach ache. The leaf and stem tissues of Condea verticillata contain the lignan compound podophyllotoxin.
