About Compsus auricephalus (Say, 1824)
Compsus auricephalus, commonly known as the golden-headed weevil, is a species of broad-nosed weevil belonging to the beetle family Curculionidae. This species is native to the Americas, and it is fairly widespread across the southern United States, with its range extending through Mexico and Guatemala in Central America. Compsus auricephalus has two distinct color morphs. One morph is predominantly green, with a pink or coppery colored head and part of its legs; the other morph is completely white to pale brown. In 2020, a revision was published covering the species' status, variation, distribution, and biological information. Confirmed records of Compsus auricephalus come from Guatemala, Mexico, and the United States. Within the United States, the species has been recorded in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. It has also been intercepted at ports of entry in Ontario, Canada.
