Comarostaphylis diversifolia is an erect shrub that can grow to over 4 metres (13 ft) tall. It has gray, shreddy bark, and tough, oval-shaped evergreen leaves that sometimes have toothed edges. Its inflorescence is a raceme made up of urn-shaped flowers, which are very similar to the flowers of related manzanita shrubs. The fruit it produces is a bright red, juicy drupe with bumpy skin.
