About Coenagrion lunulatum (Charpentier, 1840)

Coenagrion lunulatum, commonly known as the Irish damselfly or crescent bluet, is a species of damselfly. Its range extends across northern Europe and Asia, reaching as far as north-eastern China. This species is common and widespread across northern Finland, it is scarce and restricted to local areas in the Netherlands and Ireland, and it is rare in all other parts of its range. The common name Irish damselfly comes from the species being found in Ireland, but not in Great Britain. The alternative common name crescent bluet refers to the shape of the markings on the second body segment of males, as well as the species' scientific name.
