About Coelogyne fimbriata Lindl.
Coelogyne fimbriata Lindl. is a small, light-loving, cool-growing epiphytic orchid that reaches 40 cm in height. It produces conical, ovoid to pear shaped, longitudinally grooved pseudobulbs, which measure 2.5 to 4.0 cm in length and 1.5 to 2.5 cm in width. These pseudobulbs are completely enveloped by imbricate, persistent, papery sheaths, and each carries 2 leaves. The leaves are oblong-lanceolate, acuminate and slender, 5 to 15 cm long and up to 3 cm wide. This orchid occurs in the Himalayas, Nepal, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. It grows epiphytically on trees in lower montane forests at altitudes between 900 and 1500 meters above sea level. For cultivation, Coelogyne fimbriata Lindl. grows best when potted as hanging plants. It needs watering during the growing season, and requires medium-consistency, well drained growing medium like fir bark. It prefers bright indirect sunlight of 20 to 40 thousand lux, and grows in a bushy pattern with many thin aerial roots.
