About Coeliades anchises (Gerstaecker, 1871)

Coeliades anchises, commonly called the one-pip policeman, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. Its distribution includes eastern KwaZulu-Natal, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, the area from Mozambique to Somalia, and Ethiopia. Males of this species have a wingspan of 55 to 70 mm, while females have a wingspan of 65 to 72 mm. In southern Africa, adult butterflies are active from October to March each year. The larvae of Coeliades anchises feed on Triaspis glaucophylla, Dregea angolensis, Marsdenia angolensis, Acridocarpus, Tristellateia, and Ficus species.
