About Cocytius duponchel Poey, 1832

Cocytius duponchel, first described by Poey in 1832, has a wingspan ranging from 110 to 150 mm. Males of this species are considerably smaller than females. On the upperside of the forewing, there are black discal dashes, plus a transverse, kidney-shaped, dirty white discal spot. This moth occurs in tropical and subtropical lowland habitats. Its known range covers Cuba, the West Indies, and extends from Bolivia, southern Brazil, and Argentina north through Venezuela, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Mexico. It can also be found rarely in the U.S. states of Florida and Texas.
