About Coccyzus cinereus Vieillot, 1817
The ash-colored cuckoo, currently classified under the scientific name Coccycua cinerea, is an American cuckoo species belonging to the cuckoo family Cuculidae. This species was formerly placed in either the genus Coccyzus or the genus Micrococcyx. After researchers discovered that it belongs to a distinct evolutionary lineage centered on the little cuckoo, the genus Coccycua has been reinstated to hold these species. The ash-colored cuckoo's permanent breeding range stretches from northern and central Argentina through Uruguay to the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Its wintering range extends further north, reaching into the Brazilian state of Amazonas. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest.
