This species, scientifically named Coccoloba pubescens L., is commonly called grandleaf seagrape. It is a medium-sized tree that reaches 24 meters in height, and has an open crown with sparse branching. Its leaves are orbicular, and their size varies greatly: most measure 2.5 to 45 centimeters in diameter, though rare specimens can reach 90 centimeters across. The upper leaf surface is bright green, while the lower surface is paler with yellow to reddish veins, and leaves have smooth, wavy margins. The species produces greenish-white flowers arranged on erect spikes that can grow up to 60 centimeters long. Its fruit reaches 2 centimeters in diameter.
