About Cnemathraupis eximia (Boissonneau, 1840)

The black-chested mountain tanager, with the scientific name Cnemathraupis eximia, is a bird species that belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. It can be found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. This species was previously classified under the genus Buthraupis. In 2010, a molecular phylogenetic study revealed that the genus Buthraupis was polyphyletic, so the black-chested mountain tanager was moved to the resurrected genus Cnemathraupis.
