About Clytie illunaris Hübner, 1813
Scientific name: Clytie illunaris Hübner, 1813, also cited as Clytie illunaris Hbn. and synonymized with Clytie gracilis B.-Haas. The forewing is grey, dark ash grey, or more rarely pale bone colour. The inner and outer lines are blackish; they are very seldom clear, often interrupted, or even entirely absent. The submarginal line is pale, only visible in dark grey specimens, and is always preceded by an irregular black zigzag line that does not reach the costa, and is darkest below the costa. The orbicular stigma appears as a faint dark dot. The reniform stigma is a pale figure-8 shape, and is often split into two separate spots. The hindwing is pale grey or bone colour, with a broad, diffuse grey submarginal band that is always darker and more clearly defined in females. Pale bone-coloured specimens are classified as the new aberration ab. ossea ab. nov. (= ab. 2 Hmps.). In the new aberration ab. brunnea ab. nov. (= ab. 1 Hmps.), the forewing has a brown ground colour, with markings that are equally faint and unnoticeable. In the new aberration ab. obscura ab. nov. (= ab. 3 Hmps.), the forewing, except for the base of the inner margin, is suffused with red-brown, and only the subterminal line is visible.
