About Clivina collaris (Herbst, 1784)
Clivina collaris is a species of ground beetle that belongs to the subfamily Scaritinae. It was first described by Herbst in 1784. This beetle releases defensive chemicals through a complex muscular system. If you step on it, the pressure of your body weight can trigger the release of these chemicals. If the released chemicals come into contact with human skin, they cause a very mild burning sensation and leave a dye-like colored stain on the skin. Regular soap washing is not able to remove this colored stain. There is no major cause for concern after contact with Clivina collaris' defensive chemicals: some people may not experience any irritation or pain at all. Skin texture returns to normal within 30 minutes after exposure.
