About Clivia nobilis Lindl.

Clivia nobilis, commonly called the green-tip forest lily, is a flowering plant species in the genus Clivia of the family Amaryllidaceae. It is native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. This plant grows to around 38 centimeters (15 inches) tall. It produces evergreen, strap-shaped leaves, and forms pendent umbels holding multiple narrow, trumpet-shaped red and yellow flowers that have green tips. In temperate regions, it is typically cultivated as a houseplant, and requires a minimum temperature of 10 °C (50 °F). Like its relative Clivia miniata, Clivia nobilis has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, a status that was confirmed in 2017. Charlotte Percy, Duchess of Northumberland (born Clive, 1787–1866), who served as governess to Queen Victoria, was the first person to cultivate Clivia nobilis and bring it to bloom in the United Kingdom. After her work with the plant, the entire genus Clivia was named in her honor.
