About Clivia gardenii Hook.

Clivia gardenii Hook. is a geophytic plant species that belongs to the genus Clivia. This species is native to KwaZulu-Natal, where it grows in the area stretching from the Ngome Forests to the KwaZulu-Natal Midland. Its total area of occurrence is 6,900 km². Currently, fewer than ten subpopulations of Clivia gardenii exist. Over the past 90 years, the species has lost 30% of its habitat. The primary causes of this habitat loss are overharvesting for use by traditional healers and collection by horticulturalists. Additional threats to the species include plantation establishment, commercial crop cultivation, and general land development.
