About Cleisostoma simondii (Gagnep.) Seidenf.
Cleisostoma simondii (Gagnep.) Seidenf. is an orchid species that grows 30–40 centimeters (12–16 inches) long or longer, and produces numerous aerial roots from its stems. This hardy, evergreen orchid bears numerous thin, jointed, fleshy, terete, linear leaves that measure 10–28 centimeters (3.9–11.0 inches) in length. The whole plant’s color shifts based on growing conditions: it ranges from green to dark green when grown in humid, low light environments, and shifts to red to purple when grown in drier, more brightly sunlit conditions. Flower buds of this orchid develop in late September, and it produces long-lasting flowers from October to early November. Flowers grow on a flower spike that reaches 10–15 centimeters (3.9–5.9 inches) long, which holds between one and eleven flowers total, with an average of six to seven flowers per spike. Each flower averages 1.5 centimeters (15 millimeters) in diameter.
