About Clavelina huntsmani Van Name, 1931

Scientific name: Clavelina huntsmani Van Name, 1931

This species is commonly called the lightbulb tunicate. It gets this common name from two distinct pink lines, which are created by the dorsal lamina and endostyle of each of its zooids. These two pink lines look like the filaments inside a light bulb. Each individual zooid is nearly transparent. They measure 2 to 4 cm tall, and 5 to 10 mm in diameter. Zooids grow together in clusters that can reach up to 50 cm across.
