About Clarkia concinna (Fisch. & C.A.Mey.) Greene

Clarkia concinna, commonly called red ribbons, is a species of wildflower. It is endemic to California, growing in low-elevation mountains in the northern region of the state. It is an annual plant with erect herbaceous stems. Its distinctive flowers bear four looping red or dark pink sepals that resemble loops of silk ribbon. The longer pink petals have three lobes, which are typically streaked with white. Three subspecies are recognized: C. concinna subsp. automixa (Santa Clara red ribbons), C. concinna subsp. concinna (red ribbons), and C. concinna subsp. raichei (Raiche's red ribbons).
