About Clarkia breweri (A.Gray) Greene

Clarkia breweri, also called fairy fans or Brewer's clarkia, is a rare wildflower species. It is endemic to California, and has only been recorded in seven counties in the central region of the state. It grows short stems that are less than 20 centimeters (8 inches) tall, and bears sparse, narrow leaves. Its distinctive flowers have four pink to lavender petals, each around 2 centimeters long and wide. Each petal has three irregular lobes, with the middle lobe being long and spoon-shaped. This species typically grows in habitats of shale or serpentine scree.
