Its flowers are bowl-shaped, with lavender or pinkish-purple petals that are often paler toward the base and speckled with red; each individual petal measures 1 to 3 centimeters long.

The stigma extends out past the corolla, and is surrounded by shorter stamens.
Native Range and Habitat
This species is endemic to the mountains of southern California, where it grows in chaparral and coastal scrub plant communities.
