About Cladonia pleurota (Flörke) Schaer.

Cladonia pleurota (Flörke) Schaer. is a fruticose cup lichen species that belongs to the Cladoniaceae family. German lichenologist Heinrich Gustav Flörke first formally published this as a new species in 1808, under the name Capitularia pleurota. Ludwig Emanuel Schaerer moved the species to the genus Cladonia in 1850, resulting in its current accepted scientific name. In North America, it has two common informal names: red-fruited pixie cup and red-fruited cup lichen.
