About Cladonia amaurocraea (Flörke) Schaer.

The thallus of Cladonia amaurocraea is made up of tall, slender podetia that measure 15–100 mm in height, and are irregularly or dichotomously branched. These podetia have a smooth, yellowish-green surface that is often mottled with patches of green and white. Podetia tips are either pointed, or form a narrow cup that is either closed or has a narrow opening. Usnic acid is present in the cortex of this species, while barbatic acid is found in the medulla. Cladonia amaurocraea grows in boreal forests, where it typically occurs on talus deposits between boulders and on rocky ground. In North America, it is widespread across Canada and Alaska.
