About Citharexylum berlandieri B.L.Rob.
Citharexylum berlandieri B.L.Rob. is a species of flowering plant in the verbena family, Verbenaceae. It is native to the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States and Mexico, where its range extends south as far as Oaxaca. Its common names are Tamaulipan fiddlewood, Berlandier fiddlewood, negrito fiddlewood, negrito, and orcajuela. This plant grows as a shrub or small tree, reaching a maximum height of 6 m (20 ft). The type specimen for this species was collected in 1890 by Cyrus Pringle, from hills near Las Canoas, San Luis Potosí. The following year, in 1891, Benjamin Lincoln Robinson described it as a new species. Robinson selected the specific epithet to honor Jean-Louis Berlandier, a French naturalist. In Mexico, the bark of Citharexylum berlandieri is used for firewood.
