About Cirsium spinosissimum (L.) Scop.

Cirsium spinosissimum, commonly called the spiniest thistle, is a European thistle species that grows in dry rocky habitats. It occurs naturally in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the Balkans. This plant reaches a height of 20 to 80 cm, which is equal to 8 to 31.5 inches. It gets its scientific and common name from the long, sharp spines that grow on its leaves, stems, and the sides of its flower heads. Each flower head holds many disc florets and no ray florets; the florets are off-white, and sometimes carry a purple tint.
