About Cirsium drummondii Torr. & A.Gray
Cirsium drummondii, commonly known as Drummond's thistle, dwarf thistle, or short-stemmed thistle, is a North American plant species belonging to the tribe Cardueae in the Asteraceae family. It is native to central and western Canada, occurring in every province from Ontario to British Columbia, as well as the Northwest Territories. In the United States, this species has only been recorded in the Black Hills region that spans Wyoming and South Dakota. Cirsium drummondii is a biennial or perennial herb that grows up to 110 cm (44 inches) tall, and it blooms just one time before dying. Its leaves bear thin spines along their edges. A single plant sometimes produces only one flowering head, though it may produce several. Flower heads contain purple (rarely white) disc florets, and do not produce ray florets.
