About Cirsium acaulon (L.) Scop.

Cirsium acaulon (L.) Scop., also called Cirsium acaule, is a perennial herb. It produces spiny leaves that form a spreading rosette, with individual leaves measuring 10 to 15 centimeters in length. Most plants grow only one flower head, though 2 or 3 flower heads may occasionally develop. The flower head is typically unstalked, growing directly from the leaf rosette. The flower head itself is 3 to 4 centimeters long, and its florets are red to purple. This species flowers from June through September.
